Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking an Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) Generalist to support the AMC Facility currently being constructed at the University of South Carolina Aiken campus. This position is responsible for providing ESH support to the research and development (R&D) activities and personnel operating within the AMC Building. The individual’s primary focus will be to monitor, and track compliance requirements, provide assistance to R&D personnel and coordinate with other ESH subject matter experts (SMEs) to support the AMC Facility activities.
Responsibilities
The individual will function as a member of the Environmental Health and Safety Department at SRNL’s main campus at the Savannah River Site while providing on-site support to the R&D staff working and operating at the AMC Facility located at USC-Aiken campus. The individual will function as a team member with other site ESH SMEs to support compliance efforts at the AMC Facility. This will include a wide range of ESH, DOT, Industrial Hygiene, and Chemical Lifecycle Management Program support. The individual should have a broad background within the ESH regulatory field. This role will require the individual to work with R&D researchers in various fields of application to ensure the safe operation of equipment and activities. This can include safety assessments, waste characterization, chemical inventory, as well as supporting regulatory reporting. The individual is expected to work with site SMEs as needed to guide and direct personnel to ensure safe operation of research projects located in the facility.
Successful Candidates Will
- Have a broad background in various ESH compliance areas including:
- OSHA
- Industrial Hygiene
- RCRA Waste Characterization
- Wastewater Permitting and compliance
- Air Permitting and compliance
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Develop expertise within their discipline.
- Effectively communicate (verbal & written) regulatory requirements
- Interface with both internal and external customers
- Create internal alliances outside the immediate team or department.
- Understand how their role relates to others on the team and the role of the team in supporting the DOE mission.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS/BA in science related field and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
- Bachelors in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or Industrial Safety preferred but degrees in Chemistry, Biology, or other science-related field with relevant work experience will be considered.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is LegallyRequired
- This position will report daily to the AMC facility on the University of South Carolina Aiken Campus once completed.
