Job Description
SRNL's Environmental and Legacy Management Directorate is seeking an experienced scientist to manage work scope/projects/programs associated with the high-level radioactive waste tank characterization and disposition, salt batch qualification, and tank closure efforts.
Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will interface with SRNL shielded cells operations, analytical chemists, and site customers to achieve success.
- Possess a good understanding of analytical chemistry methods for characterization of samples.
- Report results to customers within strict timelines through technical reports, correspondences, and/or presentations.
- Collaborate with other organizations and DOE sites to further waste treatment goals.
- Author or collaborate on proposals to obtain funding for the creation of novel projects applicable to SRNL's Environmental and Legacy Management Directorate's missions.
- Candidate may perform hands-on laboratory work scope associated with flowsheet development for SRS and/or other DOE sites radioactive waste processing facilities.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with colleagues, customers, and management.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. For Masters degree, must have a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience. For PhD degree, must have a minimum of 2-4 years of work experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, gloves) and work in a radiological environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience with process analytical chemistry and handling of hazardous and/or radiological materials is desired.

About The Team
SRNL’s Environmental & Legacy Management (ELM) Directorate closely collaborates with the Department of Energy (DOE) and site contractors to develop, mature, and apply science and technology needed to resolve environmental challenges and advance legacy management missions. As the lead laboratory for Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and Legacy Management (DOE-LM), SRNL applies our talent and expertise to develop and deploy innovative approaches and technologies to reduce risk, cost, and schedule of environmental cleanup and nuclear material processing. Additionally, ELM is using our competencies to develop new materials and processes for a range of clean energy applications.
