Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a ventilation background to join our team! Experience in design, maintenance, and testing of confinement ventilation systems/components in new nuclear facilities is preferred. This individual will be responsible for the application of local and national codes and standards to nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. This position will require the application of conventional engineering and scientific solutions to resolve technical task objectives in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.
Employee will be required to climb stairs and ladders, support work in radiological areas, be present on field walkdowns indoors and outdoors, have the ability to develop and work to a schedule, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Responsibilities
Specific assignments include:
- Serving as a responsible Engineer for various building ventilation systems (mechanical). Including confinement ventilation systems that serve as Vital Safety Systems.
- Development and execution of Capital and Maintenance projects and supporting Research and Development initiated projects.
- Develop conventional Engineering and Scientific solutions to technical task objectives in a timely, cost-effective and safe manner with minimal guidance from senior professionals.
- Learn specific company/directorate systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks.
- Accept delegated technical responsibility for an Engineering program.
- Support Engineers and Scientists performing related programs.
- Lead tasks related to study, development, testing and analysis of designs, processes or procedures related to organization function.
- Organize and accept responsibility for the accuracy of technical analysis, and evaluation of results using standard techniques and procedures.
- Perform scientific, engineering and design calculations.
- Prepare and review technical manuals, reports and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS + 7-9 yrs; MS + 6-8 yrs; PhD + 5-7 yrs of experience in a commercial, government, or industrial environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited university is required.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- Experience in the following areas:
- Design and maintenance of commercial, radiological and industrial mechanical ventilation systems.
- Laboratory Design and layout of confinement units such as Fumehoods and Biological Safety Cabinets.
- Calculating and developing air balance system strategies and layouts
- System configuration requirements and proper air balance for testing of HEPA filtration.
- Project scope development and execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS + 10 yrs; MS + 8 yrs; PhD + 6 yrs of experience in a commercial, government, or industrial environment.
- Experience in Nuclear industry including safety basis compliance.
- Experience working proficiently in CAD software programs.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to understand, follow, and implement complex instructions.
- Exceptional organizational skills, including the flexibility to handle multiple assignments for a variety of customers simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal, problem solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Successful candidate must have the ability to: prioritize and meet deadlines; identify opportunities to delegate or assume tasks as needed; and work both collaboratively and independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Solutions-oriented person who possesses strong problem-solving skills.
