Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking an exceptional Senior Software Engineer with expertise in DevOps, DevSecOps, and MLOps to lead the design, development, and implementation of a CI/CD system from scratch. This individual will work closely with our governance framework for acquisitions, collaborating with stakeholders to update processes and ensure seamless integration. As a strong advocate for software engineering and high-quality products, this person will drive best practices and champion a culture of excellence within the organization.
Responsibilities
- CI/CD System Development: Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive CI/CD system that integrates with existing tools and infrastructure.
- Governance Framework Collaboration: Work closely with the governance framework team to ensure compliance with acquisition processes and procedures.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with stakeholders to identify areas for process improvement and implement changes that enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability.
- DevOps Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance on DevOps, DevSecOps, and MLOps best practices, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational goals.
- Project Management: Manage projects, including proposal development, budgeting, and resource allocation, to ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
- Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate with external authorities, stakeholders, and team members to ensure that development goals are met while navigating regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Software Development: Develop secure, high-quality software, primarily in Python, to support DevOps and CI/CD initiatives.
- Innovation and Research: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, researching and recommending new technologies and tools to enhance the organization's DevOps capabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, DevOps, or a related field.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is LegallyRequired
- Proficiency in DevOps, DevSecOps, and MLOps, with hands-on experience with common tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Strong development skills in Python, with experience in other languages (e.g., Java, C++, JavaScript) a plus.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders, developers, and external authorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively navigate complex technical discussions and negotiations.
- Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and tools (e.g., Jira, Asana).
- Familiarity with governance frameworks, compliance regulations, and industry standards for cybersecurity (NIST, ISO, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- DevOps certifications (e.g., AWS DevOps Engineer, Certified Scrum Master) or security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+).
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, including migration, deployment, and management.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

About The Team
The Global Security Directorate (GSD) of SRNL provides a team focused on staff development and infrastructure upgrades for nuclear reprocessing science and technology programs at SRNL. GSD is growing its support of its critical NNSA nonproliferation portfolios and is building its teams to support these enduring programs.
