Job Description
The Global Security Directorate is seeking a highly qualified and motivated mid-career nuclear engineer who can apply technical expertise in data management and program evaluation of nuclear material characteristics, packaging, and uses. This position will support strategies in coordinating and performing tasks associated with Nuclear Materials Management at SRNL and around the DOE Complex. Additionally, this position will serve as a technical resource for the mobile nuclear facilities and other NNSA programs as required.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The candidate will apply technical leadership in evaluating the suitability of nuclear materials inventories for disposition or reuse, in direct support of NNSA and partner DOE sites and programs, to help fulfill U.S. nonproliferation policy and materials management.
- The candidate will collect data and supervise information management and support project and facility operational information needs.
- Interface with SRNL leadership, federal oversight resources, and other sites in the DOE complex
- Provide written reports and presentations as necessary. and will from time to time deliver presentations.
- Ensure all activities follow SRNL safety, quality, records, and training programs.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering field and BS + 7-9 yrs; MS + 6-8 yrs; PhD + 5-7 yrs
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is LegallyRequired
- Experience with one or more disciplines of materials operations, program or project management, safeguards or material accounting, NDA methods, nuclear material production
- Candidate must be capable of working with an interdisciplinary team and recognize the importance of information support to policy and operations
- Prior experience in supporting NNSA/DOE-wide task teams
- Experience with nuclear operations and control room protocols
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively to government agencies and facility resources
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of working experience and understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle and uses, history, or disposition challenges of solid nuclear materials
- Extensive training in nuclear facilities and operations
- Active DOE Q clearance
- Experience as Design Authority for Non-Destructive Analysis systems
- Enrollment in Human Reliability Program
- Proficiency with databases at top level; working knowledge of Excel, Access, SQL, or VBA
