Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician

Essential Job Duties
- Performs work in a specialized field involving data collection and evaluation from established procedures in functions such as nondestructive testing, electronic testing, destructive testing, telemetry testing, radiometry, radiation measurement, infrared radiation measurements, confirmatory measurements, receiving inspection operations, or evaluation. The work performed involves the use of specialized equipment of varying degrees of complexity working with valuable materials whereby improper judgment could result in loss of product or extensive data. Depending upon assignment, the Technician will operate such equipment as computer- controlled product testers, linear accelerators, ultrasonic, optical alignment photographic and related test equipment in a defined Department or Section. Evaluates data collected in accordance with prescribed procedures for each operation.
- Performs associated duties as assigned within the work area to ensure proper housekeeping incidental to care and protection of equipment, records and procedures.
- Performs work with a high degree of accuracy in all phases of duties under general supervision.
- Assists professionals as required in identifying problems and in establishing new and improved procedures and techniques.
- Requires application of judgment and skill in the performance of critical data collection assignments.
- Follows prescribed Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
- Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
- Understands worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
- Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.
- Performs tasks according to Standards, Internal Operating Procedures, Operation and Instruction Standards, and other written procedures or verbal instructions.
Nondestructive Evaluation
- Operates various items of equipment such as linear accelerator, x-ray machines, lasers, radiometric instruments, acoustic emission equipment, and ultrasonic test equipment, Eddy Current, CMM (coordinate measuring machine), CT (computed tomography), etc.
- Processes film, sets up test objects and recording media, and evaluates data based upon findings and calculations as determined by prescribed procedure.
- Follows prescribed procedures in the proper setup of assemblies and operates equipment associated analysis functions.
Skills And Minimum Qualifications

- Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
- Must have current specific education and/or experience as noted below, depending upon assignment.
- Requires the ability, as determined by past experience and/or academic records, to read, comprehend, and adhere to and perform necessary mathematical operations.
- All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
Education
Nondestructive Evaluation (nde)
Successful completion of Associates Degree in Industrial NDE (nondestructive evaluation) or Medical X-ray (preferred), combined with at least 6 months job-related experience;
OR
At least 9 credit hours of relevant college Physics, and at least 9 credit hours of advanced math or engineering courses (content), combined with at least 1-year job-related experience*;
OR
Four (4) years direct experience in an industrial laboratory (NDE oriented) with demonstrated ability, based upon past performance, to perform the function involved as determined by comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
- Up to 6 months of the job-related training requirement may be gained through job-related post-secondary education.
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements
- In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
