What You'll Do
Numerical Control Programmers Develop and write programs for numerically controlled machines using engineering specifications and drawings. Analyzes engineering drawings to define configuration of parts and determines type and sequence of machine operations. Develops programs for machining and printing parts, tools, or sheet metal on numerically controlled machine tools. Makes proper manufacturing selections for each part, taking into consideration such factors as speeds, type of cutters, feeds, and control system limitations. Selects program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part. Tests and modifies existing parts programs for engineering changes or program improvements.
This position requires the ability to program computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools that are used in the High Explosives (HE) Manufacturing Department; must have the ability to review and understand complex engineering drawings and create solid models from the drawings; must have the ability to create post processors that can be used to translate Pro-Engineering/Simplify3D code into machine code; must be able to troubleshoot post processors.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience; typical experience ranging from 7 to 10
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; typical experience ranging from 7 to 10
- OR PhD
- OR Applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 12 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.
DOE Order 426.2A Requirements
- In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience directly related to CNC machining, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience of CREO NC software
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience of Fanuc Series Controllers
- Thorough knowledge and operating experience of 3D printers
- Knowledge and understanding of CNC machine tools
- Knowledge and understanding of post processors
- Knowledge and understanding of typical computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications
- Provide feedback on machines and processes to engineering team to support future technical improvements
- Support engineering group with Digital Transformation improvement efforts, including Windchill Process Plans and ePDM implementation.
- Evaluate existing CNC programs, fixtures, tooling, and machining processes and identify and implement process improvements to optimize quality, productivity, and cost.
- Hands-on experience operating machine tools is preferred
