Essential Job Duties
- Must be proficient in the installation, troubleshooting, overhaul, repair, and modification of all types of refrigeration equipment used for air conditioning, cooling process water, freezers, refrigerators, vending machines, environmental chambers, X-ray, etc. This includes all auxiliary equipment used in the refrigeration process.
- Inspects and cleans gauges, sight glasses, temperature indicators, driers, etc.
- Checks refrigeration and compressor units for visible oil leaks and periodically tests oil for acid content.
- Must be proficient in the use of tools and test equipment normally used in the craft to perform inspections, performance tests; troubleshoots electrical and mechanical components to determine the required parts and degree of maintenance necessary to repair equipment.
- Electrical and mechanical testing instruments used in performance of this work includes voltmeters, ammeters, velometers, Halide or electrical leak detectors, hydrometers, compound gauges, sling psychrometers, temperature and humidity recorders, dial indicators, tachometers, etc.
- Performs all adjustments on unloaders, expansion valves, high or low pressure controls, freeze protection, and similar protective control devices.
- Must be proficient in the use of hand tools.
- Tests refrigeration equipment to determine malfunctions. May pump-down units prior to making repairs, charge with refrigerant, and tests repaired unit prior to releasing for operation.
- Performs moving, setting, and aligning of motor driven equipment; troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic and mechanical lifting devices and equipment; and performs rigging work as directed by the Area Mechanic Shop Supervisor.
- Must be proficient at reading prints, sketches, electrical diagrams, and schematics for the fabrication, installation, modification, and troubleshooting work required of this craft.
- Notifies line management and the Utilities Department of any discrepancies in utility equipment and schedules any necessary repairs with them.
- Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs, and/or adjustments to equipment, installations, and/or fixtures.
- Requires strict adherence to electrical safe work practices and other Safety, Fire and Security regulations.
- Must be able to work alone or with others as the job and safe work practices require.
- Performs duties under the direction of line management.
- Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department Of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
- Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
- Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
- Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

Skills And Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.

- Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
- Must have four (4) years experience satisfactory to the Refrigeration Shop Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Department Manager in the performance of current Refrigeration Shop work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description.
- Must have knowledge of refrigeration control systems and circuits.
- Must have section 608 Technician Certifications-(Universal, Type 2 and Type 3)
- Must have 4 years commercial refrigeration and/or chiller experience.
- Must have working knowledge working with 480v 3 phase electrical.
- Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
