What You'll Do
- Performs waste characterization and management practices in compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Chapter 335 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations that apply to industrial and hazardous waste.
- Performs radiological characterization by reviewing data provided by radiation safety and performs calculations for shipments.
- Writes radiological methodology summaries to include updating radiological profiles.
- Performs duties in support of the Pantex's Waste Management Program. This would encompass RCRA hazardous, Texas Class 1 and Class 2 non-hazardous industrial solid waste, low-level radioactive waste, mixed waste, and classified weapon components.
- Prepares documentation to support waste management operations of waste and weapon components. This could include: complete process evaluations, create characterization documents and prepare shipping documents.
- Provides support to Process Engineering through review of programmatic weapon procedures for proper waste accumulation and processing.
- Supports subcontractor personnel in proper waste management practices.
- Provides support of assessments/audits (both internal and external) of Pantex's Waste Management Program.
- Develop/revise procedures as needed to assure continuity of operations and provide process improvement.
- Operate and maintain accurate records associated with the Waste Tracking Database.
- Provide waste management assistance to plant population.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 4 to 7 years.
- Candidates with high school diplomas may be considered on an exceptional basis if they have 10 or more years of relevant experience.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of Department of Energy (DOE) O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an environmental or science discipline with a minimum of 4 to 7 years relevant experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of both the federal and state waste and transportation regulations including RCRA (40 CFR), DOT (49 CFR), and the State of Texas waste regulations (TAC 335).
- Ability to perform duties while exercising initiative, independent judgment, and discretion under general supervision.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex math and radiological issues.
- Possess highly effective people skills with ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledgeable of Pantex business and operations support, resources, practices, processes, and policies needed to solve problems and accomplish work.
- Technical knowledge of engineering, formalized operations, and/or production line activities.
- Ability to identify, research, and systematically resolve complex issues and problems.
- Basic Knowledge of DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Pantex Field Office (PFO), and Pantex procedures and work instructions.
- Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
