Essential Job Duties
- Performs all classes of painting including exterior and interior of structures, fixtures, mobile equipment, and vehicles.
- Mixes paint and matches colors by stirring together the proper proportions of pigment, base, and thinner.
- Uses brushes and spray guns to apply paint.
- Erects working scaffold.
- Paints and redecorates walls, woodwork, and fixtures of buildings; scrapes paint from old surfaces, and places putty or filler in nail holes and interstices.
- Lies out and paints signs using stencils and other devices.
- Cuts and installs glass in windows, doors, and cabinets.
- Spray paints inside a paint spray booth.
- Tapes and floats sheetrock joints and nail holes to a smooth surface.
- Prepares surfaces on automobiles and rail vehicles by cleaning and blasting.
- Applies paint systems to vehicles using spray guns and brushes, including mixing and using primers, activators, and finish coatings with acrylic, epoxy, and urethane systems.
- May work out of a boom truck or manlift and work with sand blasting equipment.
- Hangs vinyl and wallpaper.
- Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs and/or adjustments to installations and/or fixtures.
- Performs duties under the direction of line management.
- Responsible for the maintenance accurate records.
- Adheres to Safety, Fire, and Security regulations.
- Must be able to work alone or with others as the job requires.
- Responsible for the safe operation and proper care of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by Organizational Development & Training, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
- Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
- Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
- Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.
Skills And Minimum Qualifications

- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
- Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
- Must have successfully completed a four (4) year Pantex approved Apprenticeship which provides experience directly related to the work currently performed by the Painter Shop, or have four (4) years’ experience satisfactory to the Painter Shop Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Department Manager in the performance of current Painter Shop work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description.
- Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
