The High Energy Physics (HEP) Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a Staff Physicist position. We are seeking outstanding candidates to contribute to our collider experiment research program, particularly in the ATLAS experiment. The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role in data analysis, detector construction, and experiment operations.
In addition to collider physics, the position offers opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary research across Argonne, including projects involving artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) and high-performance computing (HPC).
We are primarily considering candidates at the Assistant Physicist level (RD2), which is comparable to a tenure-track assistant professor position. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in detector design, instrumentation development, construction, commissioning, operation, and data analysis.

Position Requirements
Ph.D. in High Energy Physics or a closely related field
2+ years of postdoctoral research experience
Deep knowledge of elementary particle physics and/or related disciplines, along with broad general scientific understanding
Demonstrated ability to identify significant research problems and to develop innovative solutions
Strong expertise in the design, construction, and operation of experimental apparatus, as well as in data analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate effectively and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues
Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
