We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of advanced scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM) methods for cutting-edge scientific research in areas such as quantum materials and low-dimensional energy systems. This position emphasizes automation, high-throughput data acquisition, and real-time data processing, offering a unique opportunity to advance S/TEM capabilities, publish impactful research, and collaborate with a diverse group of scientists both within and beyond CNM.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and apply advanced S/TEM techniques, focusing on atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy (EELS/EDS)
Implement automation and high-throughput workflows for data acquisition and analysis
Contribute to on-the-fly data processing and integration with computational tools
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in nanofabrication, instrumentation, modeling, and data science
Position Requirements
Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field(s) of materials science, physics, computational science, or a related field
Strong background in scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), particularly atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy techniques (EELS/EDS)
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar, with experience in data-driven workflows and computer vision
Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications
Highly collaborative, innovative, and capable of working independently in a multidisciplinary research environment
Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with multi-modal AI/ML model development
Experience with 2D materials, defect characterization, or in situ/operando microscope
