Job Description
The Savannah River National Laboratory’s Environmental and Legacy Management Directorate seeks an experienced engineer/scientist with quality assurance/quality control experience to support our analytical service groups and research portfolio. The role is designed team with researchers, analysts, and statisticians to define, implement and assess technical and performance specifications to meet defined quality requirements. Success in this role will require a working knowledge of quality control implementation, quantitative processes in an analytical laboratory setting, and applied statistics to define measurement uncertainty parameters.
The successful candidate must be extremely detail oriented and self-motivated.
Responsibilities
The work scope will include developing and implementing appropriate quality management systems for a variety of measurement systems and projects. Quality control techniques and statistical process control methods will be utilized to identify, qualify, and validate measurement methods, tools, and/or systems, track trends, identify improvement actions, and track performance.
The Successful Candidate For This Role Shall
- Ensure analytical measurements and accredited methods within their cognizance are maintained within applicable requirements,
- Ensure the adequacy of measurement control for data quality and accreditation requirements,
- Support analytical method development and method readiness activities,
- Provide oversight of analytical methods to ensure the analytical methods and associated implementing procedures meet the required data quality objectives.
The position requires positive teamwork, a willingness to problem-solve and work through puzzles, and personal/professional accountability. Productive technical interfaces with management, researchers, and external assessment organizations are required to assure applicable certifications are maintained (ISO-17025, NFAC, ISO-9001, NQA-1, ASTM, etc). This will be accomplished by leading internal assessments and management reviews of quality programs, method-specific quality plans and processes, and providing support on anomaly resolution.
This individual will have responsibilities to ensure that all services comply with relevant standards, regulations, and industry best practices specific to method-specific quality plans and process. The individual must be able to publish and present technical reports or presentations within strict timelines to meet scheduled deliverables. They also need to continuously provide feedback to management regarding schedule and status of audits, assessments, proficiency testing, and critical deliverables.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a B.S. degree and demonstrated knowledge and experience directly related to quality, analytical measurements, and statistics
- Strong oral/written communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills
- Basic computer skills (MS Office)
- This position will require selected candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance for which U.S. Citizenship is legally required.

About The Team
SRNL’s Environmental & Legacy Management (ELM) Directorate closely collaborates with the Department of Energy (DOE) and site contractors to develop, mature, and apply science and technology needed to resolve environmental challenges and advance legacy management missions. As the lead laboratory for Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and Legacy Management (DOE-LM), SRNL applies our talent and expertise to develop and deploy innovative approaches and technologies to reduce risk, cost, and schedule of environmental cleanup and nuclear material processing. Additionally, ELM is using our competencies to develop new materials and processes for a range of clean energy applications.
