Job Description
Come and join Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) as a Safety Basis Engineer in the Operations and Facilities Engineering organization as an authority in the field of safety basis development and implementation. This includes consolidated hazard analysis, documented safety analysis, accident analyses, technical safety requirements, and facility-specific-safety management programs, in the areas of nuclear safety, criticality safety, inventory control, container control, and nuclear material handling and processing.
Responsibilities
- Support of the SRNL safety basis and upgrades.
- Provided technical support to the development of the inputs and assumptions documents for the safety basis, individual accident analyses calculations, and the nuclear criticality safety evaluations
- Responsible for facility-specific safety management program and make recommendations to management on technical programs based on analysis of Facility needs and technology trends
- Reach solutions to the most complex technical problems in field(s) of expertise and influence solutions in neighboring disciplines.
- Apply technical experience in field of specialization (or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields) and use other technical resources in the company and external resources, to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical specialization.
- Influence technical direction of other parts of the department and act as a technical communicator across disciplines to optimize the creative solution of technical problems.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
- Mentor less senior professionals as a means of transferring technical knowledge and insight.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering, Math, or Science. MS degree and 8 years relevant work experience, or BS degree and 10 years relevant work experience required.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the DOE or commercial nuclear industry providing Facility Safety Basis / Accident Analysis support (per DOE-STD-3009 or similar requirements document).
- Experience in source term calculations
- Experience in calculation of curie equivalencies both on criticality basis as well as on dose basis.
- Experience and working knowledge of isotopic decay and radiological dose impacts due to decay.
