Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) seeks to hire a seeks to hire an Accounting Director to provide leadership in overseeing accounting operations under the Battelle Savannah River Alliance, LLC (BSRA) prime contract with the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Accounting Director is responsible for business functions such as: payments, receivables, cash management, general ledger, payroll, travel, etc. In this capacity, the incumbent oversees the internal controls and structure necessary to operate economical and efficient business systems while maintaining appropriate levels of risk management to ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, laws, and guidance from the government and parent corporations. The Accounting Director uses strategic planning, leadership and relationship building skills, and knowledge of GAAP, CAS, and other financial policies to support the research mission of SRNL.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for capital accounting, inventory accounting, and cost reporting to DOE.
- Oversees the general accounting, cost accounting functions, capital accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, treasury services, travel services, etc.
- Manages all aspects of consolidating and reporting financial performance both to DOE and Corporate partners.
- Manages a staff of accounting and finance professionals in developing the necessary financial reports to satisfy SRNL’s internal and external reporting requirements, including annual reports, governmental reporting, corporate board reports.
- Oversees all aspects of data gathering, interpreting, processing, consolidating, and reporting financial results.
- Responsible for monthly reporting, annual operating, business planning and strategic planning for various business functions.
- Responsible for oversight of financial procedures and applicable prime contract financial requirements.
- Stays abreast of changes in financial requirements and interprets the effects on SRNL.
- Evaluates processes and internal controls for effective financial and accounting operations and recommends and implements enhancements including system improvements.
- Maintains economic and efficient operations while maintaining appropriate levels of risk management to ensure compliance with applicable financial and operating regulations, laws, and guidance from the government and corporation.
- Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.
Work Direction And Interfaces
- Reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
- Includes interface and interaction with internal and external customers as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business discipline
- Minimum of 15 years of institutional financial activity experience or other business-related programs
- Minimum of 7 years of management experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB, and Cost Accounting Standards
- Experience managing and developing a staff of finance and/or accounting professionals
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and corporate reporting software, with a working knowledge of PowerPoint
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business discipline and/or CPA
- Experience with governmental accounting
- Working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, contract law, ethics and finance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working across multiple divisions and managing different expectations
- Proven ability to work as a team member in a collaborative environment
- Exceptional leadership, management, and planning skills as well as strong client interface abilities
- Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
- Ability to lead a team and work independently in a timely and accurate manner
- Self-motivated and self-directed
