Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in a technical career as Operations & Maintenance Director. As a senior level management position, the Director will provide management and leadership of facility operations and maintenance within the Operations & Facilities Directorate including the development, coordination, implementation, and oversight of facility programs and services. Act on behalf of the Operations & Facilities Director when designated. Support programmatic issues for the facilities including Safety, CONOPS, Training, Procedures, Budget, Issue Management, Facility Operations Safety Committee (FOSC), Nuclear Facility Managements and Facilities Readiness. Provide overall direction and oversight of Facility Operations & Maintenance to ensure strategies and schedules accomplish facility contract milestones while maintaining compliance with the safety envelope, laws and regulations and DOE Orders. Providing high quality and agile customer service to support and enable world-class research and development.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities
Lead and implement the execution of all missions, programs, and initiatives with the facilities. Maintain responsibility for the overall safety and safe, efficient, and effective operation of facility processes and services. Interface with senior R&D and support managers including Operations, Training, Radiological Controls, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Maintenance who are accountable to this position for the performance of their respective organizations. As the Director of Operations and Maintenance, the selected candidate will take on the role as the nuclear facility manager as one of the key areas of responsibility.
Other Responsibilities
- Ensure facility compliance with Federal and State laws and permits, DOE orders and facility authorization agreements.
- Fulfill role as Chairperson of Facility Operations Safety Committee (FOSC).
- Establish performance standards and ensure adherence to the standards in the facilities.
- Coordinate communications with support organizations to effectively support the facilities' missions with strong collaboration and customer service mentality.
- Lead investigations and assessments to ensure activities are safely and correctly conducted
- Provide final decision authority for classification and response to abnormal operating events
- Ensure investigations are performed following abnormal events to identify and correct the cause of the events.
- Lead and manage project and mission integration for complex mission scope and improvement projects.
- Balance competing priorities within budget constraints to support modernization of facilities and infrastructure.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technical Bachelor's degree in applicable science or engineering discipline with 15 Years of Nuclear Operations OR a combination of 20 years education and relevant experience which includes supervisory and/or technical experience in nuclear facility operations, testing, and maintenance will also be acceptable.
- Ability to establish and communicate a strategic vision for successful nuclear/ radiological facility and non-nuclear facility operations mission accomplishments and implementation of continuous improvements.
- Safe and efficient execution of day-to-day activities.
- Implementation of safety basis requirements and performance of activities within their approved Authorization Agreement.
- Implementation of facility systems, components, operations practices, SRNL policies and procedures.
- Providing leadership, communication, and coordination for all support organizations addressing nuclear and non-nuclear facility issues.
- Line management responsibilities for all human capital activities for assigned facilities.
- Work package manager for assigned budgets.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with managing construction activities supporting nuclear and non-nuclear facilities and operations.
- Progressive senior leadership experience within a commercial, government, or military operations environment
- Direct experience with matrix management and influencing through indirect leadership in a highly complex, matrixed, cross-functional organization
- Active Security Clearance
