What You'll Do
Represents the Design Authority (Engineering) for issues requiring attention on the UPF Project. Integrates and coordinates inputs from multiple technical disciplines; resolving conflicts, when necessary. Provides engineering judgement for the establishment and maintenance of design requirements and design basis. Provides engineering judgement for changes to the design or technical basis and ensures the technical adequacy of engineering designs. Reviews System Requirement Documents (SRDs) for upcoming projects for situational awareness and technical adequacy.
DAR Qualification is a requirement of this position but may be obtained after acceptance. DAR qualification can still be held by other employees within other organizations. The Primary DAR will hold qualification for all areas/facilities designated under their mission area and coordinate with all qualified DARs within their mission area to ensure DAR coverage is available and reliable. This will include Configuration Control Board representation, Operational Safety Board representation, Change Package and other design output document reviews, and general representation of Engineering Design Authority.

Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. Requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranges from 10 to 15 years.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
The preferred candidate will have the following:
- Exemplary skill in application of Conduct of Engineering principles and NQA-1 requirements commensurate with performing work in nuclear facilities
- Experience with Y-12 facilities, procedures, and programs
- Strong familiarity with the applicable national consensus codes, standards, and DOE requirements/guidelines used in the technical management of building systems and infrastructure for nuclear facilities
- Demonstrated skill in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, and management of technical issues

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
