Overview:
We’re hiring a Team Lead to support and transform our Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics areas! The Team Leader (TL) provides direct supervision of team members and assists the Group Leader (GL) with technical oversight for AI and BA/BI (Business Intelligence) applications. This role requires considerable use of initiative, independent judgment, and communications. This position resides in the Enterprise Applications & Business Intelligence group of the Application Development Division in the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and managerial support for ORNL’s Business Intelligence and Analytics environments.
- Provide input to the GL for establishing group and team vision.
- Serve as direct supervisor for members of the BI development team.
- Support and implement ITSD, group, and team procedures and related documentation for organizational change, project management, incident and problem management, intake, etc.
- Assign tasks to both AI and BI developers based on priority and availability.
- Work with BI developers to design technical solutions per needs, requirements, and timelines through the entire product development life cycle.
- Provide input for planning, cost, and schedule estimates for BI projects. Work with embedded and ITSD project managers.
- Review technical products produced by group members in support of AI and BI applications.
- Perform annual performance reviews with the team and 360 assessments for group members that support BI applications.
- Assist GL in identifying new AI and BA staffing requirements, drafting position descriptions, and participating in the interview process.
- Collaborate with the AI for Operations Program Lead to transform that program’s innovations into broadly applicable and sustainable enterprise services.
- Take ownership for the Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics technology stack, ensuring we have the right tools, configurations, processes, monitoring, and support in place to provide confidential and reliable information to decision makers.
- Provide guidance and direction for the design of the AI/BA pipeline, including ETL, semantic modeling, security, and reporting/visualization.
- Actively participate in the development of AI and BA artifacts, to include ETL jobs, semantic model implementations, reports and dashboards, tests, agents, automations, and monitoring jobs.

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, business administration, data/applied analytics, or a related field of study and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of aligned experience is required for consideration. An overall combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Proven track record of development successes.
- Data analysis and modeling experience.
- Experience leading or managing teams and/or projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate will foremost have a passion for working with data, and a show willingness/desire to learn emerging technologies and platforms. The candidate must be a highly motivated, self-starter who is comfortable working as part of a team (in any capacity) or as an independent contributor. They must also demonstrate:

Skills and experience in the following areas:
- Agile development methodologies.
- Microsoft Power BI.
- Microsoft SQL Server and Azure infrastructure and tools.
- SAP HANA.
- General understanding of artificial intelligence concepts (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, generative AI).
- General understanding of common commercially available AI tools (e.g. Open AI ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot).

- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
