We are seeking an experienced Artificial Intelligence Technologist to lead the development and oversite for an AI strategy, ensuring the responsible implementation and integration of AI technologies across all business functions, aligning AI initiatives with broader business objectives, and promoting ethical use of AI while advocating for its potential to drive innovation and value creation within the company.
Primary duties include creation and management of an AI vision, strategy, roadmap to guide investment decisions related to AI Tools and platforms, leading and developing AI solutions, working with the other departments to ensure AI and data governance policies drive the appropriate quality, security and ethical use of data using AI models, guiding the organization to build a team of AI experts, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization to identify AI opportunities and communicate the value of AI initiatives and gain buy-in from key stakeholders; championing responsible AI practices, addressing potential biases in AI algorithms, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and ethical guidelines; staying abreast in AI advancements, identifying new opportunities to leverage AI to foster a culture of innovation within the organization.
Additional duties may include collaboration with external stakeholders across the Nuclear Security Enterprise related to the development and execution of artificial intelligence strategies.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain authority and accountability for exploiting the value of artificial intelligence to render insights for decision making, automated decisions and augmentation of human performance. Be the corporate leader of AI insights and use cases that help support the exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities.
- Build partnerships with executive leadership to establish the vision for managing AI as a business asset — to exploit AI capabilities to maximize the value derived from data assets.
- Define artificial intelligence vision, strategy and associated practices. Lead the creation (and assure the ongoing relevance) of the organization’s AI strategy in collaboration with the CIO, CD&IO and executive leadership.
- Institute an enterprise operating model for artificial intelligence that is consistent with the capabilities and competencies required to execute the strategy.
- Foster the creation of a culture to embrace AI technologies, related competencies and AI literacy across the enterprise. Lead these transformation efforts by developing AI talent and maturing the capability of the organization.
- Oversee delivery AI models, methods and practices for create business value through the use of AI products and solutions.
- Establish and maintain trust in AI technology by instituting governance mechanisms for AI algorithms used for analysis, analytical applications and automated decision making.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead AI-driven innovation for the enterprise, including investigation, adoption and exploitation of artificial intelligence.
- Lead research, strategy creation and development of new AI products or services to expand markets, monetize data (directly and indirectly) and impact enterprise profitability.
- Expand the organization’s research and analytics offerings, especially in emerging analytical approaches, skills and technologies, focusing on accelerating digital business innovation and transformation.
- Define processes for the effective, integrated introduction of new AI within the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s in science technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); computer science; data science; information systems, statistics or related field; or equivalent work experience. Academic qualification or professional training and experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning areas are also desirable. Minimum of twelve years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree and minimum of ten years of relevant experience.
- OR PhD and minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
- Applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent may be considered on an exceptional basis with 20 or more years of relevant experience.
- Twelve or more years of IT business experience, targeted at business operations, strategy, and the ability to align AI initiatives with overall company goals.
- Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams, multidisciplinary environments and enterprise-wide artificial intelligence programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
- Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in artificial intelligence, science technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); computer science; data science; information systems or related field.
- Broad business experience internally and within the vertical industry.
- Executive Education programs in AI and Leadership
- Certifications in AI and Data Science
- Strategy and management consulting experience desirable.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
