The Deputy, General Counsel Will Work Under The Direction Of The CPCCo General Counsel. When The General Counsel Is Absent Or Unavailable To Perform His/her Duties, The Deputy General Counsel May Temporarily Assume The Role Of General Counsel With All Delegated And Requisite Authority. In Addition, The Deputy General Counsel May:
- Assist the General Counsel in the management of other legal professionals within the Office of General Counsel, including evaluating and allocating workload as necessary.
- Direct the hiring and retention of outside counsel as required.
- Act in an advisory capacity regarding legal matters to line and staff organizations within the company.
- Address issues arising in various substantive areas of law including corporate, government contracts, procurement, environmental, labor, and employment.
- Represent/provide council to the company in grievances and arbitrations, negotiations, and litigation with third parties and their counsel, government agencies, and other outside parties.
- Review various contracts, leases, company correspondence, and other company legal documents, and make recommendations for the modification, revision, and clarification of such documents as needed.
- Evaluate the impact of existing laws, proposed changes to the law, and court decisions that might have an impact on company policies, practices, operating procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Make recommendations concerning such laws to senior management for final action.
- Draft original legal forms and documents as required.
- Interact with legal and corporate management within the parent company organizations of the LLC as needed.
- Endeavor to protect and preserve the resources of the Company, the parent companies, and the federal government.
Basic Qualifications
- Deputy, General Counsel Grade 23 - Juris Doctor (JD), plus 10 years of relevant experience.
- Deputy, General Counsel Grade 24 - Juris Doctor (JD), plus 12 years of relevant experience.
- An active membership status in at least one Bar Association of any state in the United States.
- Must be admitted to the Washington State Bar or ability to obtain a limited House Counsel license pursuant to Washington Supreme Court Admission Rule 8(f) within one year of start of employment.
The higher posted level has greater scope, complexity, authority, impact. The level offered to the selected candidate will be based on the needs of the company and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with DOE complex and contractor compliance.
- Experience including extensive work in governmental contracting.
- Extensive Experience working with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), National Labor Relations Act of 1935 (NLRA), and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Experience in multiple legal disciplines including, though not limited to, corporate law, environmental law, contract law, labor law, procurement, and human resources.
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the CPCCo salary determination process, CPCCo takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities, and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. CPCCo will not solicit salary history for candidates.
Expected annualized pay range based on full time schedule (40 hours per week):
- Deputy, General Counsel Grade 23 - $179,013 - $235,638.
- Deputy, General Counsel 24: $205,975 - $270,925.
In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for variable pay awards.

- Relocation Eligibility: Must be located greater than 50 miles from Richland, WA 99352. If eligible for relocation, the Not To Exceed (NTE) range offered to the selected candidate will be based on the needs of the company and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience in relation to the position grade level offered. The higher posted level has greater scope, complexity, authority, impact.
