Overview:
We are hiring a Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist to focus on the delivery of global solutions to enable a hybrid workforce! Our team manages over fourteen thousand client and server systems in a highly dynamic research community using many configuration management systems. This position resides in the Client Support & Engineering group in the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations division, of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Mature the overall lifecycle for software assets for a strong asset portfolio, through data analysis, process enhancements, and critical initiatives.
- Assist ORNL leadership and users in learning and understanding software compliance and risks related to non-standardization, vulnerabilities, and IT software licensing complexities
- Gather, collate, and present complex sets of data in an easily digestible way to a wide variety of audiences.

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, science, engineering, business, or a related field of study and two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience is required for consideration.
- Experience in security vulnerability assessment and remediation using industry standard tools to analyze IAVM/CVE/CIS findings.
- Basic experience diagnosing and resolving Windows, Linux and macOS, in their installation, configuration, management and operations.
- Ability to work with a diverse team and help influence/drive change across functional boundaries, working with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving skills, including the ability to accumulate, organize, and assimilate large amounts of information.
- The ability to work occasional extended and weekend hours to resolve urgent problems or meet critical milestones is required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) or more years of proven experience.
- Understanding of CMDB theory/IT asset management.
- Knowledge of software management tools for discovery, monitoring and management options (metering, deployment, removal, etc.) for each operating system platform.
- Understanding of Cloud/Virtualization/Containerization technologies (VMware, XenApp, XenDesktop, Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, etc.).
- Ability to learn and maintain updated knowledge of various Tier 1 vendor license models (Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, VMware, Adobe, ServiceNow, etc.) and the ability to interpret software contracts/EULA’s.
- Certifications in Software Asset Management is a plus and/or experience in ITAM/ITSM solutions.
- Experience working in a science or technology environment is desired.

- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
