Overview:
The Technology Integration Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Senior HPC Systems Engineer with notable experience in high performance communication libraries, system evaluation and performance analysis experience to design, and deploy capabilities for next-generation leadership computing systems.
This position is part of the Advanced Technologies Section within the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) Division.
The Advanced Technologies Section (ATS) is an applied research and development organization dedicated to improving facility operations. The section offers scientific, technical, operational, and strategic leadership by researching, developing, and deploying solutions to support the largest scientific High Performance Computing systems in the world.
The NCCS provides state-of-the-art computational and data science infrastructure, coupled with dedicated technical and scientific professionals, to accelerate scientific discovery and engineering advances across a broad range of disciplines. NCCS hosts the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, one of DOE’s National User Facilities.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Plan and lead the implementation, validation, and deployment of successful solutions for complex technical problems such as:
-
Performance analysis for large scale HPC workloads.
-
Scaling and performance evaluations of modern heterogeneous and extreme-scale high-performance computing systems.

Operating and Runtime Systems
-
Large scale network architectures and communication libraries
-
Perform multi-faceted evaluations of new computing technologies to determine their suitability for deployment in large scale HPC systems and guide future system design requirements and procurement strategies.

Perform analysis of the design and deployment process for large scale HPC systems, design deployment optimization strategies.

Collaborate in authoring peer reviewed papers, technical papers, reports and proposals

Support researchers in systems architecture and file and storage systems fields
Basic Qualifications:
-
A Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

Familiarity with at-scale HPC system design and operations; DOE ASCR facilities; vendor proposal evals etc.

6+ years of relevant experience outside of education
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong personal motivation.

Experience with modern software development practices.
-
Experience with Linux systems programming.
-
Experience with high-speed communication network systems.

Experience with heterogeneous systems design and deployment.

Familiarity with large-scale system design, deployment, and operations;

Ability to map large-scale application requirements to hardware-software and libraries design.
