What You'll Do
- As a first level supervisor, the incumbent will provide leadership, technical direction, and oversight to NDA Specialists within the 4 site NDA labs.
- Assigns and schedules work, monitoring completion.
- Provides direction based on goals, deliverables and sample backlogs.
- Provides status updates to laboratory and project management.
- Ensures proper requirements are completed and documented before task execution (procedure use, training, SQA, etc).
- Ensures equipment certifications and calibrations are maintained.
- Ensures proper handling and ordering of selected instrumentation, chemicals and consumables.
- Will help troubleshoot, approve data, approve time, and analyze samples.
- Will manage and ensure regular and required activities are accomplished.
- Will help manage overtime.
- Will help manage equipment list for accountability and replacement.
- Conducts personnel performance appraisals and recommends promotions & adjustments of direct reports.
- Helps in new hire training, mentoring and on-boarding processes.
- Will manage employees in both the newer and in the older facilities.
- Works with laboratory personnel to review and modernize current procedures as well as develop new methods and procedures for analytical services as technologies and requirements as customer needs evolve.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Physical Science: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
- Experience in the field of NDA theory and practical experience in the use of gamma-ray and neutron-based NDA measurement instrumentation and NDA measurement software.
Preferred Job Requirements
- Candidates must be skilled in data analysis, data processing, and data manipulation within multiple database, spreadsheet, word processing, and custom software applications.
- Must have good analytical and organizational skills as well as excellent problem-solving skills, including the ability to learn and develop innovative ways to non-destructively measure uranium.
- Preferred work-related experience includes knowledge of nuclear material operations and processes within the Nuclear Weapons Complex.
- Knowledge in computer programming, especially with Canberra/Mirion APEX software systems and Python computer language.
- Requires a broad knowledge of multifaceted areas of chemistry, with experience in modernizing and optimizing lab processes and instrumentation.
- Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical writing skills.
- Requires a high level of personal motivation, strong leadership skills and the ability to work within changing situations to meet short deadlines.
- Supervisory experience.
