What You'll Do
The Production Systems Engineer will report to the Production Systems Manager and will serve as a technical liaison between diverse system users/stakeholders and the Information Technology organization to design and deploy robust software system solutions to solve shop floor execution and planning problems. The primary focus of this role is the enhancement and application of integrated SAP manufacturing planning and execution system modules to meet diverse stakeholder requirements for Production, Quality, Engineering, Planning/Scheduling, Safety, Nuclear Material Control & Accountability, and Nuclear Criticality Safety. In addition, this role will use the following key modules: SAP Production Planning (PP), Quality Management (QM), Manufacturing Execution (ME), and Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (MII).
Responsibilites Of This Position Include The Following
- Engages heavily with Information Technology counterparts in the design, testing, and implementation of software projects which span multiple functional organizations to improve efficiency and effectiveness of production-related operations.
- Engages with information system users throughout the organization (including the shop floor) to assess needs, provide training for solutions implemented, investigate and troubleshoot system issues, and provide ongoing technical support.
- Engages in Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) and/or local site working groups to represent Y-12 manufacturing systems for assessing impacts for proposed changes or how the systems may be used to solve issues.
- Ensures compliance with Software Quality Assurance policies and best practices through manual as well as automated testing tools. SmartBear TestComplete (JS Scripting) is the current tool for building and running automated tests.
- Applies knowledge of Y-12 production processes to advise planners in the development of complex manufacturing plans (routings and bills of material). Assists in designing and writing router scripts in SAP ME for complex part routing logic.
- Analyzes current and historical data using tools such as Microsoft Access and Tableau to resolve quality issues, look for trends, or respond to queries from customers. Assists in designing and creating views in Denodo to expose production data to external systems and reporting tools.
- Participates in productivity improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, etc. for the development of new or improved techniques, systems, processes, or methodologies to increase productivity and eliminate waste.
- Leads software solutions through the project life-cycle to successfully deliver assigned projects within agreed upon constraints (e.g., scope, schedule, labor cost, and quality).
- Implements new technology (such as smart electronic procedures and Simio modeling) so that it integrates seamlessly with SAP and other production systems.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Science/Information Technology from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET
- OR Master of Science degree in Engineering/Science/Information Technology discipline
Preferred Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant, progressive work experience supporting Production, Quality, or Programmatic initiatives strongly preferred
- Experience with deployment of Lean or Six Sigma principles and implementations
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred but not required
- Experience with Agile development principles and Scrum desired
- Strong desire to improve and the ability to motivate and work well with others
- Previous experience working on or managing multi-discipline teams
- Demonstrated persistence and strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills
- Ability to generate business cases and solid financial acumen is preferred
- Comprehension of Lean or Six Sigma tools and basic project management strongly preferred
- Participation or leadership of a process improvement team strongly preferred
