Job Description
The Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a skilled and driven Network Engineer to join a high-performing team supporting mission-critical Department of Energy (DOE) networks. In this role, you will support a secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure delivering network services across classified environments. You’ll operate within a dynamic, cross-functional team that supports national security initiatives, while maintaining the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of sensitive systems and information.

Responsibilities
- Perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of Cisco and Juniper routers, switches, and other networking hardware across LAN/WAN and CAN environments.
- Manage and troubleshoot High Assurance IP Encryptors (HAIPE), including KG-175, KG-245X, and KG-250X devices.
- Support deployment and diagnostics of long-haul circuits, fiber infrastructure, and classified voice and data systems.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and rapid response during mission-impacting incidents; restore services with minimal downtime.
- Maintain compliance with COMSEC procedures, including lifecycle management of cryptographic key material.
- Create and maintain documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and system procedures.
- Actively participate in knowledge sharing, peer training, and mentoring activities to sustain team readiness and effectiveness.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS/BA + 4-6 yrs or equivalent relevant experience will be considered
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting secure network environments in a federal, military, or classified capacity.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent IAT Level II per DoD 8570.01-M).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting secure network environments in a federal, military, or classified capacity.
- Hands-on expertise in TCP/IP networking, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), and Layer 2/3 infrastructure.
- Proven experience working with cryptographic devices and adherence to classified handling protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DOE Q clearance or eligibility for crossover from a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
- Experience supporting DOE, NSA, or military network operations.
- Working knowledge of McAfee firewall appliances and enterprise monitoring tools such as HP Node Manager.
- Strong understanding of COMSEC compliance requirements and procedures.
- Journeyman Internetworking Technician or Network Operations Specialist.
