Job Description
Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a mid-career Mechanical Engineer to support the Weapons Production Technology Directorate’s Advanced Engineering Division’s Mechanical Systems & Customized Equipment Development Group. The candidate will assist in developing, designing, fabricating, assembling, testing, and fielding specialty equipment and systems that will be deployed in unique operating environments. The candidate will need to have an excellent working knowledge and experience in Computer Aided Design and fabrication methods. Candidate will need to have experience in designing and fabricating custom components, equipment, and systems. Candidate should have experience in working in other research & development engineering programs and/or complex engineering design projects. Candidate will initially work on an interdisciplinary team and then be responsible for leading interdisciplinary teams to solve technical problems and deliver results.
Responsibilities
- Use CAD software to create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings
- Works with other research & development engineers to determine project scope, schedule, budgetary requirements, and risks
- Ability to work on and lead an interdisciplinary team
- Interface with external end users
- Work in a creative, flexible, and self-motivated environment with the ability to develop engineering solutions in a safe and responsible manner
- Develop, design, fabricate, assemble, test, and deploy systems to meet unique and complex technical challenges
- Expected to deliver results in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Understands and applies advanced knowledge of standard theories, concepts, principles, and techniques in engineering
- Prepare technical manuals, reports, procedures, calculations, drawings, and invention disclosures
- Candidates need to have experience in developing and executing technical scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for projects
- Expected to track project schedules and budgets while guiding early career engineers
- Use SRNL systems and meet requirements with minimal supervisory guidance
- Accepts complex tasks and drives projects to completion while delivering result
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS + 4-7 yrs; MS + 3-6 yrs; PhD + 2-5 yrs
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is LegallyRequired
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree and 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in an equipment development environment
