The Assistant Operations Research Analyst is responsible for applying mathematical and statistical expertise to solve complex operational problems across various domains, including risk management, resource allocation, logistics, and policy analysis. Applicants should be proficient in modeling and simulation, optimization techniques, and decision science. This includes developing and utilizing methodologies and tools to support decision and policy makers in optimizing operations and achieving desired objectives within constrained environments. This new position is emphasizing the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning models. This Assistant OR Analyst should be familiar with data analysis, developing predictive models, simulations, and optimization algorithms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and address key operational challenges. Finally, the role includes independently performing statistical analysis using a variety of modeling techniques, developing prototype solutions using scientific programming languages, designing experiments for validation and testing efficacy of models, and measuring impact.
In addition to conducting research and analysis, the Assistant Operations Research Analyst will support developing and implementing new analytical tools and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Responsibilities include preparing comprehensive reports and presentations on research findings, methodologies, and results for various stakeholders, and providing technical expertise in data analytic software and programming languages. This includes preparing study plans which define study efforts by providing the background, description, approach, project milestones, resource requirements, and costs for each study. The Analyst will solve complex information requirements problems through a combination of analytic judgment and proven practices and engage in continuous learning to stay current with advancements in operations research, data science, and related fields. Typical outputs include business metrics, dashboards, interactive reports, tailored data packages, project reports, white papers, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and oral presentations.
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, quantitative psychology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Basic knowledge of mathematical modeling and statistical analysis techniques and applications.
Familiarity with optimization methods, simulation techniques, and decision analysis.
Exposure to data analytic software and programming languages, including but not limited to R, Python, and JavaScript.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with stakeholders.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex problems and solutions to a variety of audiences.
Experience performing Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) activities, including data identification, cleansing and preparation, algorithm development, statistical learning, and validation of results.
Experience working with generative AI, natural language processing, network modeling, and AI assistant models is preferred
Ability to develop fact-based recommendations for project managers on matters of process, policy, investment, and business strategy.
Skill in utilizing scientific inquiry in the supervised development of mathematical models and computer programs to support assigned projects and studies.
Understanding of business goals, data, and methods and their limitations, and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement in solving problems for models or project data.
Ability to analyze and present complex data in a clear manner, continuously learning and challenging the results through new techniques and experimental approaches.

This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (RD1 or RD2) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows:
RD1: Bachelors and 0+ years’ experience, Masters and 0+ years’ experience, or equivalent. The expected hiring range for this position is $74,799 - 118,785.
RD2: Bachelors and 5+ years’ experience, Masters and 3+ years’ experience, PhD and 0+ years’ experience, or equivalent. The expected hiring range for this position $ 90,063 - 143,010.
