Overview:

We are seeking a High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Scheduling Manager who will focus on scheduling and execution of Operations and Maintenance activities during operating and outage time frames as required to achieve HFIR Safety, Predictability, and Availability goals. This position reports to the HFIR Plant Manager within the Research Reactors Division (RRD), Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As part of our team, you will ensure the schedule processes for daily Plan of the Day (POD) and outage management are completed and support the RRD mission to provide safe, reliable and efficient HFIR operation in support of the neutron science mission.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages the POD to coordinate, control, prioritize, and direct Maintenance and Operations activities, including facilitating applicable meetings.

Ensures outages are planned and executed to achieve safe and timely completion of activities, including facilitating Outage Coordination meetings.

Scoping, estimating, and creating schedules (POD and Outage) based on available resources.

Coordinating the long-term planning schedule to use as a feeder for the Outage and other maintenance-related schedules. This includes interacting with appropriate stakeholders and understanding priorities that reflect the importance of activities relative to safety, predictability and availability.

Monitoring work activities to minimize adverse impacts on facility operation.

Providing guidance to HFIR work groups to ensure appropriate activity planning, coordination, execution, and documentation.

Identifying and helping to resolve restraints and resource needs.

Ensuring that all Technical Surveillance Requirement (TSR) tests are scheduled and completed as required to comply with the HFIR/Cold Source Documented Safety Analysis (DSA).

Assuring on-time completion of all periodic Maintenance activities and commitments.

Scheduling post-job briefs on select work activities to empower continuous improvement.

Providing input to help organize the Maintenance and Operation sections to accomplish established goals and objectives.

Reporting significant events promptly to the HFIR Plant Manager to resolve schedule impacts.

Providing outage status updates as necessary to management and extended leadership.

Updating the HFIR Operating Forecast & Planning Schedule as well as the HFIR & SNS 5-Year Working Schedule.

Providing input to HFIR Operations and Maintenance performance metrics.

Identifying and recommending effective contingency plans, as necessary, to support the RRD mission.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree in engineering or a related science field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or at least 12 years of nuclear plant experience in lieu of a degree.

At least 4 years nuclear plant experience.

Possess current or prior certification as an HFIR Reactor Operator.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hold or have held a HFIR Senior Reactor Operator certification.

Hold or have held a HFIR Shift Supervisor qualification and/or a HFIR Cold Source Staff Member qualification.

Special Requirements:

This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
