Overview:
We are seeking a Partnerships Communications Coordinator to advance the position of ORNL partnership activities — Technology Transfer, Industrial Partnerships and Economic Development, Innovation Crossroads, and Strategic Partnerships — with key stakeholders in the Department of Energy, industry, and related communities. This position resides in the Executive Communications Office in the Communications and Community Engagement Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
The Partnerships communications coordinator will execute delivery of communications products, events, educational resources, websites, and social media plus provide media relations support. The primary focus of this role is external communications, although the communications coordinator will also oversee internal communications efforts as directed by the Executive Communications Manager in coordination with the Deputy for Science and Technology and the Director of Technology Transfer.
The individual in this role is expected to work effectively with colleagues at the executive and senior staff level to assure that communications investments are aligned with strategic priorities. The Partnerships communications coordinator is expected to be a skilled advocate for partnership activities and achievements at ORNL.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Partnerships leadership and ORNL communications to shape, prepare, and execute a strategic communications plan that aligns Partnerships and ORNL priorities. Key priorities include effectively marketing technologies to potential licensees and highlighting partnership opportunities and successes to targeted stakeholders.

Develop high-quality, brand-consistent content to support the strategic communications plan, which may include news releases, feature stories, event materials, scripts and talking points, newsletters, reports, videos, websites, displays, social media content, and educational resources. Manage the contributions of writers, communications specialists, videographers, designers and other staff to deliver communications materials.

Produce high-quality communications for key stakeholders, including DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions, and provide editing, presentation and writing support to leadership on request.

Serve as a thoughtful liaison for Partnerships to central ORNL communications, to support alignment with broader ORNL communications and to assure understanding of Partnerships’ interests and achievements.

Engage with colleagues in DOE’s Office of Technology Transitions, other DOE laboratories, and industry partners to support and coordinate communications efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree, plus a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in external communications or stakeholder relations, or equivalent.

Experience with DOE laboratories, energy industries, or energy-related engineering and research activities.

Demonstrated experience in managing staff, projects, and resources to deliver high quality communications products to key stakeholders on time and on budget.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to accurately translate complex science and engineering concepts into non-specialist language.
Preferred Qualifications:

A MS degree, preferably in a field related to the role

Experience with intellectual property or commercialization.

Experience with DOE laboratory systems, policies, procedures and work methods.

Experience in building, fostering and influencing collaborative networks.
