Overview:
The Client and Service Management Group in the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is hiring an entry-level IT Technologist! In this role, you’ll contribute to end user support on over fourteen thousand Windows/Macintosh/Linux computers, and mobile devices throughout ORNL.
IT Technologists respond to ORNL staff seeking information technology assistance and perform a wide range of computing support services. These services include user and technical support for: computer account management and remote access; providing information related to the procurement of ORNL computing standards that are present in Marketplace and computing standards maintained by the IT division; assistance with procurement of ORNL software standards; and token distribution supporting computer login and remote access. This position will provide support to both end-users and technical staff to address requests or issues and will coordinate with other team members in ITSD as necessary to provide computing solutions.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Main responsibility is to provide user support and customer service and includes the following:
- Supporting the acquisition, configuration, preparation, and delivery of computing standards to current ORNL staff and new employees.
- Addressing questions and providing assistance with purchasing computing equipment or related accessories.
- Supporting iOS and mobile devices (including ordering, assignment of devices to staff, etc.).
- Contributing to Knowledge Base articles by authoring, editing, or sharing with users when appropriate.
- Addressing other tasks that may be administrative in nature in support of IT.
- Performing other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:
- An AS degree and up to two (2) years of work experience is required for consideration.
- Ability to handle and adapt to evolving priorities and tasks and while multitasking on different various objectives.
- Friendly presence and helpful demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.
- Ability to communicate clearly to technical staff and end-users either in-person, over the phone, or in writing.
- Willingness to share knowledge and mentor less-experienced personnel.
- Create and review Knowledge Base articles for the group.
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AS degree and three (3) or more years of directly related experience supporting IT initiative.
- Knowledge of ORNL practices, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of ORNL’s computing environment.
- Knowledge of the ServiceNow’s ITIL management system.
- Knowledge and experience working with ORNL-supported software: e.g. Adobe; Entrust; etc.
- Familiarity and knowledge of ORNL’s IT systems, SBMS, and other processes to provide accurate guidance to customers.
