Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Geotechnical Engineering Technician - Trainee to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will be responsible to collect geotechnical instrumentation and field data in the WIPP underground, process that same data using computer and database systems, install instrumentation, and assist engineers and technical professionals in data collection and processing. The candidate will support underground openings inspections, identification of potential ground condition hazards and mitigation of these hazards. Candidates must be able to walk on even and uneven surfaces; climb ladders, steps and inclines; qualify to work underground; accurately read dials and gauges; follow procedures; properly and accurately record readings; and be capable of operating computers and maintain computer databases. Candidate must be able to qualify to operate diesel and electrical lift equipment and able to lift up to 20 pounds and perform overhead work. Must be able to qualify to work underground and in radiological contaminated areas.

- High School Graduate or Equivalency is mandatory.
- Two (2) years of underground experience.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.
