Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Underground Facility Engineer to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of plant equipment and systems operations and procedures and full knowledge of regulatory requirements to include DSA/TSRs. Knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities involved with the Work Control process for review, authorization and work release. Knowledge of radiological control procedures. Be able to apply specific plant knowledge and experience to support operations of equipment and systems and on theory of operation. Analyze breakdowns or problems to determine optimal solutions and develop procedures accordingly. Develop and direct maintenance or operational test activities to ensure plant operability and compliance. Prepare and conduct related training programs for affected employees as a qualified Level I Instructor. Coordinate with engineering on equipment and system installations and develop appropriate maintenance and operation procedures. Plan and execute equipment or system outages for maintenance and repair. Report all issues or concerns related to integration of facility activities/readiness, environment, or quality to management. Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and policies. Conduct frequent inspections of assigned work area to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. Promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management. Implement standards contained in SIMCO Code of Conduct. Three (3) years of nuclear project experience (or equivalent) will be required in order to become fully qualified.

- Bachelor of Science degree, or
- Associates of Science degree with four (4) years of related experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of related experience is required.
- One (1) year of plant/facility operating experience is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain respirator qualifications.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Underground Operations experience is preferred.
- Three (3) years nuclear project experience is preferred, where two (2) of the three (3) years may be substituted by full-time related academic training (e.g. degree programs, trade schools, vocational programs, etc.).
- Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Minimum salary $67,817 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
