The successful candidate will report to the Principal Investigator for X-Ray Diagnostics of Fuel Injection and Sprays in the Transportation and Power Systems Division. The successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting measurements of fuel injection, analyzing data, and reporting the results. The successful candidate will perform measurements of multi-phase flows, including automotive, aerospace, and ground power fuel injection and HVAC systems using Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source, including x-ray radiography, tomography, and high-speed imaging. The successful candidate will analyze the results with the goal of quantifying the fundamental fluid mechanics of the systems and will work with computational modelers to develop a better understanding of the injection and breakup processes. The successful candidate will write publications and make presentations of the results at conferences and meetings.
Position Requirements
PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.
Knowledge of experimental fluid dynamics.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts and procedures.
Computer and programming skills, including data processing and manipulation of large data sets.
Skilled in general laboratory instrumentation and safe experimental practices.
Skills in oral and written communications at all levels of the organization.
Experience and skills working in a team environment.
