Position Description:
An electrical engineer is needed to supply electrical engineering resource to design, analyze, test, troubleshoot and maintain precision power supplies and power supply control systems used in particle accelerator applications. The power supply controls systems use very complex analog and digital systems. The selected candidate will also learn these types of systems by helping to develop a next generation of power supplies and controls for NSLS II or other facilities. The selected candidate will report to the head of the Electrical Engineering Group.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 7 years of experience in design, testing and troubleshooting of analog and digital systems.
- Develop detailed electrical schematics and diagrams, design circuitry and create prototypes of new systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of AC / DC power supplies, its topologies and control.
- Experience in selection of components.
- Experience in simulation software and tools (e.g., PSPICE, LTSPICE, Mathcad) for circuit and system modeling.
- Technical writing skills and use of spreadsheets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with diverse group of scientists and technical staff.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study and/or minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Experience in design development of analog/digital control systems for use on power supplies.
- Experience in schematic capture and PCB layout.
- PID control design experience.
- Experience in use of FPGA and/or micro controllers.
- Design experience in ADC / DAC (20 bits).
- Experience in High Voltage.
- Experience in pulse power systems and high current rectifiers.
- Willingness to learn.
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
- May be required to climb ladders for equipment inspection.
- May be required to occasionally work off-hours, nights and/or weekends to support mission critical projects.

- The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level depending on depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills she or he brings to the position.
- This is an onsite position.
- Some domestic/international travel may be required.
