Work with radioactive materials and chemicals in laboratories that are in radiological controlled areas, including radiation areas, radioactive material areas, and contamination areas.
Employ quantitative chemical techniques for characterizing and/or processing radioactive materials.
- Apply chemical techniques involving radiotracers to investigate chemical, biochemical, or biomedical processes.
- Develop and/or apply chemical techniques to study naturally occurring and manmade radionuclides.
Responsibilities- Responsible for performing laboratory experimentation in a wide variety of research applications which mainly focus on radiochemistry, analytical chemistry, wet inorganic chemistry, separations chemistry, electrochemistry, and/or nuclear chemistry.
- Familiarity with counting techniques used for radiochemistry such as gross alpha/beta, liquid scintillation counting, alpha energy analysis, gamma energy analysis, etc.
- Planning and performing research experiments and overseeing staff performing analytical radiochemistry.
- Ability to interpret and report data from these activities.
- Utilize a broad range of radiochemical and analytical chemistry techniques, and be involved with radiological materials handling in radiological fume hoods. There may be opportunity for conducting radiological work in glovebags and gloveboxes, and for directing work in radiological hot cells.
