Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. The Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) seeks to hire an ESED Facilities Infrastructure Specialist, reporting to the Enrichment Operations Manager.
ESED serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists and engineers with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to life-saving medical treatments. ESED is the national steward for the research, development, and demonstration of centrifuge technology innovations; advances electromagnetic isotope separations technology; and delivers stable isotopes for medical, industrial, and DOE mission critical applications.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Division Point of Contact (POC) for all Facilities related activities within the Division.
- Serve as the primary POC and interface for collaboration with outward facing divisions, including F&O, LMD, and Site Planning Office
- Ensure timely communication of issues impacting ESED operations to the Division Director, Operations Manager, and impacted Program Managers, Section Heads and Group Leaders.
- Coordinate and prioritize Facilities related activities to minimize delays and optimize ESED performance.
- Work with ESED and PMO to support the development of scopes of work for infrastructure upgrades and facility improvements when needed.
- Provide project and construction interface support to ESED regarding capital construction projects, upgrades, and infrastructure improvement activities.
- Work with the Operations Manager and Line Management to develop a strategy and plan with the Facilities organization that focuses on collaboration, long-term planning, resource staffing, process & system improvements, performance metrics, and efficient execution of Facilities work within the Division.
- Identify reliability risks in aging infrastructure/equipment and develop implementation plans to mitigate risks and prevent unplanned outages.
- Ensure effective planning and timely communication to all stakeholders of planned outages, maintenance, and equipment installations to minimize downtime.
- Support monthly reviews to provide status of Facility Work Orders and performance of Facility improvement plans.
- As appointed by the Division Director or Operations Manager, serve as the Lead for selected Facilities related Strategic Planning Objectives and Actions.
- Work with Line Management and PMO in developing a Division wide short- and long-term storage plan for inventory and purchased items.
- Support Division Space Coordinator in developing detailed space requirements as/when requested.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering or a related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience in Facility maintenance and planning.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities across multiple projects
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills with leadership and cross-functional teams
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q security clearance
- Technical supervisory experience
- Experience within the isotope enrichment industry
- Experience with the marking, handling, and storage requirements of sensitive documents (e.g., CUI, ECI, UCNI, CRD, SRD)
- Experience supporting DOE, national laboratory, defense, nuclear, or similarly regulated manufacturing programs
- Experience in leading and managing change.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Special Requirements:
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
