Position Overview:
The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for legal support and advice relating to contracts, operations related claims and ordinary course operating business line transactions for BWXT Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc, BWXT Enrichment Operations, LLC and BWXT Ordnance Tennessee, Inc. at facilities in Erwin, Jonesborough and Oak Ridge, TN. Legal support includes assistance with proposal analysis and preparation, negotiation and interpretation of project and business-related contracts, contract enforcement during and after project execution, claim development and defense, assistance with project related dispute resolution, labor negotiations, Human Resources/employment practices guidance, compliance investigation, export controls, intellectual property and general business line support. Provides legal guidance, counsel and support to all levels of operating business line management including senior BWXT Business Unit executives and project management personnel as well as BWXT Deputy General Counsel.
Location:
Onsite in either Erwin, TN or Oak Ridge, TN with an expectation of spending time in Oak Ridge, Erwin, and Jonesborough.
Your Day to Day as an Assistant General Counsel:
- Advises company officials and employees on contractual matters both on commercial and U.S. Government contracts with a greater emphasis on the latter. Review and formally concur on major contract actions taken by the company.
- Represents the company before Panels and Boards related to Federal Government Contract Compliance matters and maintain current knowledge on the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Agency supplements to the FAR. Review contract documents and company purchasing procedures for compliance with the pertinent regulations.
- Assists with labor negotiations with various unions for various facilities.
- Advises the company on environmental matters and potentially represents the company before regulatory forums on certain environmental issues.
- Serves as the subject matter expert on, and responsible for the policies related to, Deliberate Malpractice and Mandatory Reporting. Responsible for conducting training for employees on these subjects from time to time.
- Conducts and coordinates investigations with the Corporate Ethics and Compliance arising out of ethics and compliance hotline calls, employee reporting through the management chain or at the request of the Government or other customers. This role is responsible for preparing formal reports when required by Government and non-government customers.
- Manages litigation including budget, providing ongoing communication to clients and the legal department and developing strategies for the litigation and the potential for settlement.
- Prepares and presents relevant training to company personnel.
- Supports other legal needs and priorities within BWX Technologies, Inc. as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Must have a current active status in at least one State Bar as certified by the Supreme Court of the licensing jurisdiction.
- Must possess at least ten (10) years of experience which includes extensive complex federal government engineering and/or equipment manufacturing contracting, execution and claims experience and/or compliance.
- Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Pay: $207,000 - $271,000
The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $207,000 and $271,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
