What You'll Do
Infrastructure Management & Maintenance
As a Data Center Engineer at Pantex, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our data center infrastructure, ensuring its efficiency, reliability, and security. This position combines hands-on technical execution with operational oversight and strategic planning, directly supporting missions vital to national security. You will be responsible for:
- Performing installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of servers, networking equipment, and other hardware components, including managing rack space, cabling (copper and fiber), and performing hardware repairs.
- Proactively monitoring and maintaining critical data center infrastructure, including power (uninterruptible power supply (UPS), generators), cooling (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)), and environmental controls, to ensure optimal performance and prevent downtime.
- Conducting regular audits of Information Technolgy (IT) and data center assets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Tool Utilization (dcTrack)
- Utilizing dcTrack for comprehensive data center management, including asset tracking, capacity planning, and real-time monitoring of power consumption, heat dissipation, and space utilization.
- Maintaining accurate asset, power, and rack information within dcTrack and similar DCIM tools.
- Generating reports and dashboards from dcTrack to analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and support informed decision-making regarding infrastructure and capacity.
- Leveraging dcTrack's visualization tools to trace end-to-end power and data circuits, understand connectivity, and identify potential issues.
- Assisting in managing data center relocation, consolidation, or new build projects by using dcTrack for planning and impact assessment.
Incident Response & Troubleshooting
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues efficiently, minimizing service disruption.
- Responding to abnormal conditions in facilities systems and escalating critical issues to appropriate teams or vendors.
Operational Procedures & Compliance
- Developing, implementing, and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Response Procedures (ERPs).
- Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and security protocols.
Project And Vendor Coordination
- Supporting data center projects such as equipment upgrades, new installations, and decommissioning.
- Coordinating with vendors for equipment procurement, maintenance, and support services.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Normally requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, with typical engineering/science experience ranging from 6 to 10 years.
- OR Master's degree in engineering/science discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- OR Applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 12 years of completed education and/or relevant experience

Technical Proficiency:
- Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, power distribution, and cooling systems.
- Proficiency with DCIM tools, specifically dcTrack, for asset management, capacity planning, and operational monitoring.
- Familiarity with operating systems (Linux/Windows) and networking concepts.
- Experience with Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) platforms (e.g., ServiceNow) for managing work orders and incidents.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
