The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is seeking a technician to join the Mechanical Operations and Maintenance (MOM) group within the APS Engineering Support (AES) Division. This position will be assigned to the Mechanical/Water section, supporting the accelerator complex, user beamlines, and other related projects.
The technician will be trained to assist with the operation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of process water pumping systems; the installation, removal, troubleshooting, and replacement of accelerator components; and the installation, removal, and troubleshooting of conventional accelerator magnets.
This position requires overtime, weekend work during machine maintenance periods, and on-call rotation availability.
Key Responsibilities
Install tubing, piping, and mechanical structures under supervision
Document maintenance activities, inspections, equipment status, and completed work in computerized maintenance management systems and other work-control tools
Support fabrication, assembly, and field modifications of brackets, supports, piping, mechanical hardware, and related components
Perform inventories of spare equipment
Follow established work planning procedures, including lockout/tagout, radiation safety, electrical safety, pressure-system requirements, and other ES&H policies
Provide on-call, off-hours, and emergency response support as needed for facility and accelerator operations

Position Requirements
Ability to read technical diagrams and engineering documents
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard online work management tools
Experience using hand and shop tools (drill press, horizontal band saw, cut-off saw)
Ability to use a multimeter and similar measurement instruments
