What You'll Do
Provides construction site rigging engineering resources and expertise during construction phases of projects to interpret designs, manages technical issues, performs quality inspections, monitors technical rigging submittals and configuration management, supports construction supervision, and provides technical approval of construction hoisting and rigging tasks to ensure Construction conforms to company procedures and industry codes.
Completes assigned tasks under minimal supervision and technical direction. Reviews and interprets drawings and specifications to determine if information is adequate for successful completion of hoisting and rigging activities. Oversees/monitors hoisting and rigging work for compliance with drawings and specifications. Performs constructability reviews during design preparation and execution. Maintains direct relationship with the Construction Managers/Construction Superintendents and the responsible Project Managers (PM) to execute the scope of work. Provides technical rigging engineering support in all phases of construction formation and project execution. Maintains records of completed hoisting and rigging lift plans. Performs verification of work in progress to ensure requirements of safety, security, quality (technical drawings and specifications), environmental control, workmanship, and schedule are met. Assists in the preparation of procedures, administrative and technical documents. Prepares/approves purchase requisitions for materials and services. Trains and certifies Competent Person Riggers.
Additional Hoisting And Rigging Responsibilities
- Coordinates the Hoisting and Rigging (H&R) activities and lift plans for Construction as the H&R SME and the Project Rigging Engineer (PRE)
- Prepares Construction Direct Hire and reviews Construction Subcontracted projects Hoisting & Rigging Plans. This individual will also be providing oversight on medium and critical lifts.
- Manage and maintain construction hoisting and rigging procedures.
- Support Construction as a full-time Hoisting and Rigging Engineer: for example, prepares lesson plans and conducts training classes to certify Construction and Subcontract employees as Competent Person Riggers.
- Provide Hoisting and Rigging technical support to the Discipline Craft Supervision.
- Perform engineering reviews; interpret working documents to determine if information is adequate for successful completion of construction work activities.
- Provide guidance to STRs and subcontractors during hosting and rigging activities.
- Verifies and inspects hoisting and rigging operations to insure they are performed in compliance with drawing, specifications, codes, and procedures.
- Inspects and ensures all hoisting and rigging equipment/tools are purchased, stored, maintained, and used in accordance with the applicable specifications, codes, and procedures.
- Provides hoisting and rigging guidance on event investigations and causal analysis

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 10 to 15 years.
- OR Master’s degree: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 10 to 15 years.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering disciplines – Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 15 years of relevant hoisting and rigging experience.
- Advanced experience in hoisting and rigging engineering activities of DOE and nuclear facility EPC projects.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
- Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- A minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in general construction which may include rigging experience.
Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required
- Basic Computer Skills in Excel, Word, Power Point, Auto CAD
- Knowledge and Certifications on most common tools used in Construction Work.
- Knowledge in OSHA / ANSI / ASME / AISC and ASTM Specifications
- Experienced in light and heavy rigging on construction sites; also, heavy haul experience.
- Experience in development and implementation of Lift Plans for Hoisting and Rigging activities
- Experience in use of lift planning software such as 3D Lift Plan
- Knowledge in Hoisting and Rigging Hardware Inspections Programs
- Knowledge in Equipment Maintenance and Inspections Programs
- Certification as a Competent Person Rigger Trainer (CPRT) or demonstrated equivalent
- Certification as a Project Rigging Engineer (PRE) or demonstrated equivalent
- Knowledge in Fall Protection inspection and tracking Programs
- Experience in scheduling, estimating, designing, and drafting on construction projects
- Knowledgeable of Cranes and design of Special lifting devices of all sorts (1 ton to 2000 ton)
