What You'll Do
The Weapons Material Program (WMP) Director manages a complex organizational unit, responsible for the entire lifecycle of consumable materials utilized in weapon production. The WMP Director leads a diverse team responsible for ensuring that all 35-account material meet design and quality requirements and are available in sufficient quantities to enable Production Operations. The WMP consists of five sections addressing each phase of the weapon material product lifecycle including procurement, planning, material engineering, laboratory testing, material production, warehousing, supply chain, and Design Agency liaison. The WMP director provides daily management oversite of the WMP leadership team and administrative staff and establishes organizational goals and polices as well as performance expectations for supervisors, managers and individual contributors. The WMP is responsible for development and execution of programmatic projects and strategic plan.
The Weapons Material Program (WMP) Director performs and follows high hazard manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assembly/disassembly, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling, while maintaining compliance with nuclear criticality, nuclear, and/or explosive safety basis of the production operation in a high hazard category environment. The work performed requires a thorough knowledge of and compliance with the safety basis and principles of Conduct of Operations as described in U.S. Department of Energy Order 422.1. Incorporates inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure deviations in product quality meet acceptable reliability standards and documentation is compliant with requirements. Provides guidance regarding product design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience.
- AND Minimum 3 years of supervisory/management experience.
- Note: Applicants without a Bachelor's Degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 20 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.
Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2A Requirements
In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
Minimum Five years of supervisory/management experience. Candidates with less years of supervisory/management experience will be required to complete a developmental plan approved by the Division Director or their delegate.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
