Project Title: Collaborative development and analysis of time-resolved X-ray diffraction and imaging studies of complex-oxide thin films and heterostructures
Project Description:
Prof. Jan-Chi Yang (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan) will conduct a short-term sabbatical visit to Argonne National Laboratory to advance an ongoing collaboration on the structural and functional dynamics of epitaxial complex-oxide thin films, freestanding membranes, and twisted/lateral homostructures. During the appointment, Prof. Yang will work with APS staff within the TRR group to (1) participate in planning and execution of synchrotron experiments, including upcoming APS beamtime; (2) perform and interpret data analysis for time-resolved X-ray diffraction and complementary imaging/structural characterization; and (3) coordinate sample and measurement strategies that connect ultrafast lattice dynamics with ferroic/magnetic and correlated-electron phenomena in oxide materials.
The visit will also include technical interactions with relevant APS as well as CNM/UEM capabilities to strengthen cross-facility approaches to dynamic materials characterization, accelerate joint manuscript preparation, and establish a framework for sustained collaboration, including continued exchange of visiting students and shared experimental programs.
