We are seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software Engineer/Developer to design, build, and deploy production-grade machine learning systems and AI-powered applications.
Primary duties include design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable software components and Application Programming Interface (APIs) necessary to move machine learning models from development into secure, operational environments.
Additional duties may include collaboration with Data Scientists to containerize models, automate testing and deployment via Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and ensure solutions meet strict performance and cybersecurity standards.
Core Responsibilities And Duties
- Design and implement Machine Learning Operatons (MLOps) pipelines (CI/CD) for automated model testing, deployment, and monitoring in secure environments.
- Develop and integrate Representational State Transfer (REST)ful APIs and microservices to serve machine learning models to internal business applications efficiently.
- Write clean, well-tested, and documented production code (e.g., Python, Java) for application backends and infrastructure orchestration.
- Utilize containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) to ensure portability and scalability of AI solutions across development and production environments.
- Implement Development, Security and Operations (DevSecOps) practices, including automated security scanning, vulnerability management, and least-privilege principles within the AI software lifecycle.
- Collaborate with the AI Agile Lead to estimate user stories and participate actively in all Agile ceremonies.
Other Responsibilities And Duties
- Support the maintenance and optimization of existing AI production systems, focusing on reliability and cost efficiency.
- Assist in the technical evaluation and integration of new MLOps platforms and tools (e.g., feature stores, model registries).
- Work closely with Data Engineers to troubleshoot data pipeline issues impacting model performance or training readiness.
- Document all architecture, deployment procedures, and production monitoring processes for knowledge transfer.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree inengineering/science discipline.
- OR Applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 8 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.

Preferred Job Requirements
- 2 years of experience in professional software development, DevOps, or ML engineering.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Python and experience with at least one major cloud provider (e.g., Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS)).
- Experience with version control (Git) and implementing continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- 5+ years of experience with MLOps or building high-scale production AI systems.
- Experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or serverless deployment methodologies.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data serialization protocols.
- Experience working with highly regulated security standards (e.g., National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST), International Organization for Standardization) ISO 27001).
- Active or previous Department of Energy Q clearance.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
