Job Description
The AI Project Manager at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) serves as the central coordinator for artificial intelligence (AI) opportunities withing Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). This role focuses on tracking, evaluating, and managing AI project and tool requests to ensure alignment with SRNOL’s mission and DOE requirements. The Project Manager will act as the intake point for AI initiatives, helping prioritize opportunities, facilitating approvals, and coordinating across technical, business, and compliance teams.
This position requires strong project coordination skills, an understanding of AI/ML applications, and the ability to navigate governance and approval processes to accelerate adoption of AI at SRNL.
This Position Has The Follow Objectives
- Track and manage AI-related opportunities and tool requests coming into OCIO.
- Serve as a liaison between SRNL teams, OCIO leadership, and DOE approval processes.
- Prioritize AI initiatives to ensure high-value opportunities move forward effectively.
- Provide visibility and reporting on AI activities, progress, and risk across the laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the central intake and tracking point for AI project and tool adoption requests.
- Coordinate with DOE to navigate tool approvals and adoption pathways.
- Maintain an AI opportunities portfolio, including status, priority, and resource needs.
- Facilitate cross-functional discussions between IT, data scientists, and business teams.
- Track outcomes and metrics to demonstrate impact of AI initiatives.
- Report regularly to OCIO leadership on AI project pipeline, progress, and risks.
- Support development of governance processes for AI adoption.
- Share lessons learned and best practices to improve future AI intake and execution.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, data science, business or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in program/project coordination or management, preferably in IT or data-related environments.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and enterprise IT systems.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to track multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience documenting processes, preparing reports, and presenting to leadership.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration.
- Prior experience in government, research, or national laboratory settings.
- Familiarity with DOE governance, IT approval processes, and compliance requirements.
- PMP or similar program/project management certification.
- Experience with portfolio management tools and reporting dashboards.
- Knowledge of cloud computing, AI/ML platforms, and enterprise architecture.
- Track record of scaling AI adoption from pilot projects to enterprise-level deployment.
