Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Facility Shift Manager and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage and direct facility operations crew personnel, maintaining WIPP within the operational requirements contained within the DSA and Hazardous Waste Permit during operations, testing, and maintenance activities. Direct overall site activities during emergencies not requiring the EOC to be activated. Support incident command to enable effective and efficient incident management response to all operational emergencies to meet the requirements of DOE Order 151.1D Comprehensive Emergency Management System. Function as RCRA Emergency Coordinator in accordance with the RCRA Contingency Plan. Categorize unusual occurrences and provide timely notifications to the Department of Energy in order to meet the requirements of DOE Order 232.2 Occurrence Reporting. Direct shift operations for the of the Central Monitoring Room and Facility Systems for the shift including electrical power distribution, heating and ventilating systems, compressed air systems, and fire protection systems. Provide on-shift training and qualification for operations engineers and technician. Manage shift operations in accordance with DOE Conduct of Operations Order 422.1 (CONOPS) principles, and flow-down requirements contained within site administrative procedures. Exercise signature authority to control maintenance and testing activities in the plant, such that continuity of operations and safety is maintained. Initiate Action Requests for maintenance repair of plant deficiencies. Authorize the release of maintenance and testing work packages. Authorize the installation and removal of Lockout/Tagouts. Lead or participate in event investigations and critiques as assigned by the Facility Operations Manager, recommending or implementing corrective actions as needed. Initiate and implement field changes to operating procedures as needed in order to support real-time operations, and initiate, review, and validate revisions to procedures. Must be able to maintain Respiratory qualifications.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of relevant experience, or
- Associate’s degree with nine (9) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with thirteen (13) years of relevant experience is required.
- Must have working knowledge of plant equipment and system operations.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Preferred Requirements
- Three (3) years of nuclear experience is preferred.
- Emergency response experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of the site configuration control, DSA and USQ process is preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience with Facility Operations at WIPP is preferred.

Exempt grade level(s) 33-35. Minimum salary $103,045 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
