Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Central Characterization Program (CCP) Mobile Loading Operator and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a full-time position position primarily located out of the CCP Mobile Loading Facility, however, it may also require heavy domestic travel based on schedule and resource demands.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Complete training necessary to obtain qualifications for Contact Handling (CH)/ Remote Handling (RH) Packaging Operations, Incidental Rigger, and Helium Leak Detection and Forklift Operations
- Interface with working groups and customers from outside organizations as needed to complete work scope
- Responsible for ensuring compliant packaging operations, payload assembly as related to the shipment of TRU Mixed Waste
- Ensure compliant closure of Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved Type B packaging in accordance with the package specific Certificate of Compliance
- Mentor team members and provide opportunities for professional development
- Other duties as assigned
The standard work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday; 10-hour days.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree, or
- Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" Clearance.
- Previous experience with nuclear and/or hazardous waste/materials.
- Physical demands associated with this position include prolonged standing, extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted items, up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to negotiate stairs, ladders and platforms, as well as the ability to work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Requirements
- Basic skill in researching, and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation of TRU Waste
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents
- Demonstrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Certification activities and equipment
- Previous experience with Nondestructive Examination techniques

Exempt grade level(s) 28-33. Minimum salary $69,444 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
