Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The A-1 Machine Shop Supervisor II will report to the Manager of the A-1 Machine Shop. This position will provide support to the Machine Shop Manager at the North Las Vegas Facilities. The A-1 Machine Shop Supervisor II will be responsible for mission critical fabrication deadlines that support the NNSS, LANL, LLNL, Pantex and Sandia. The reporting location will be North Las Vegas.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive safe operations for all fabrication, welding, and industrial operations in the A1 Machine Shop.
- Responsible for day-to-day Machine Shop operations, including oversight of fabrication operations, working with Shop General Foreman and have a firm understanding of the Union and the rules, process efficiencies, meeting production demands.
- Actively involved in day-to-day morning POD’s. Safety topics, current events and daily tasks of individuals.
- Directly supervise individual contributors, including approving time, conducting performance evaluations Craft Employee Evaluation Procedure (CEEPS), and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
- Analyze and adjust work schedules, solve production problems, handle quality issues and manage customer interactions. Implement and follow company policies, procedures and directives.
- Support tours of the A-1 Machine Shop.
- Will be responsible to coordinate Overtime duties with Shop General Foreman.
- Establish activity level work assignments and, or work projects associated with Work Packages and Shop travelers.
- Organize and supervise day-to-day operations, ensuring that schedules are kept.
- Monitor Machine/Personal performance against metrics and goals as established/approved by others and within the assigned budget.
- Responsible for daily activities with the shop manager and subordinates as well as external interactions with vendors and our customers.
- Create an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
- Will need to be trained as a Lead Emergency Director (LED).
- Will need to be trained as a Subcontract Technical Representative (STR).
- Will need to be trained as a Lift Director. Support daily lifts in the shop.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
- Proficient knowledge of machining, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) processes, mill/lathe operations, tooling, inspections and current Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance associated with drawings.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) software experience with modeling and programming, preferably with Master-Cam 3D modeling software and CREO Parametric 3D Modeling Software (PTC), formerly known as Pro/EINGINEER.
- Thorough understanding of machining processes and the latest equipment technology. Experience working in a classified shop setting and adhering to all procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local safety and health regulations regarding safe use of machine tools.
- Extensive hands-on experience with machine shop operations.
- Ability to follow quality documents and operating procedures.
- Ability to communicate (oral and written) with employees, managers, customers, vendors, etc.
- Ability to set priorities, monitor and measure performance, and solve problems in the production environment.
- Help and develop a strong Machine Shop schedule.
- Experience supervising, building and leading teams.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills in a production environment.
- The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday; 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $101,254.40 - $162,011.20.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
