Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Quality Assurance Technician and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
This is a USW bargaining unit position. This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform complex visual inspections and dimensional measurements and evaluate to acceptance criteria. Perform a variety of complex nondestructive inspections in accordance with procedures and evaluate results. Conduct/participate in assessment activities. Perform overviews to approved schedules documenting such activities. Perform receipt inspections for vendor supplied items obtained through the supply chain process. May conduct source inspections for site procured products as necessary. Travel will be required. Ability to meet site required vision requirements. Must be capable to perform inspections in unfavorable New Mexico weather. Must be capable to perform inspections on elevated platforms. Must be capable of transporting tools/equipment up to 40 pounds.
Minimum Requirements

- High School Graduate or Equivalency is required.
- Documentation from previous employer or a training or educational institution that validates weld inspection training, experience, and dimensioning skills ability is required.
- Previous experience in welding/weld inspection and dimensioning skills is required for non-USW members.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Trainee pay rate is $36.86 per hour. After all standard qualifications have been met and are maintained, the rate of pay is $45.16 with annual increases in August to $47.42 (2025) and $48.61 (2026) per the CBA.
