Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a
Civil Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will fulfill engineering department functions and support of medium and long term projects planned for the site; examples include support of future plant operation, plant upgrades and expansions, and maintenance activities. This position provides engineering input in the maintenance of and changes to civil/structural engineering structures, systems, and components including, but not limited to: roads and grounds, surface facilities, sanitary sewer, domestic water, and Safety Significant structures. The successful candidate will take initiative and be capable of leading others in executing engineering tasks to completion. The successful candidate will be able to read and interpret plans, codes, and specifications, and provide engineering guidance, analysis, and judgment in order to implement changes to the facility.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with two (2) years of professional experience is required. (Professional Engineers license is an acceptable alternative to a baccalaureate.)
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Preferred Requirements
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain a New Mexico PE license within a year is strongly encouraged.
- Previous experience working for a design agency, government, or government contractor is desirable.
- Experience interfacing with stakeholders and subcontractors and reviewing designs and schedules is preferred.
- Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 30-34. Minimum salary $80,609 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
