Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for working within a team of scientists and engineers within ASD (Advanced Sources & Detectors Program) to install accelerator systems, structures, and components; support startup and checkout of complex electrical and pulsed power systems; and support controls integration and verification activities. The work will be located at both North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site for approximately the first two years and then will transition entirely to the Nevada National Security Site. The selected candidate will be responsible for integrating into the operations team, including training to become an accelerator operator and part of the accelerator maintenance teams in order to support the U.S. Stockpile Stewardship Program.
Primary Job Purpose
To supervise mechanical, electrical, and/or electromechanical technicians performing installation, troubleshooting, startup, and maintenance of accelerator systems, structures, and components.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Directly supervises individual contributors, including approving time, conducting performance evaluations, and participating in the recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training of staff.
- Implements and follows company policies, procedures and directives.
- Establishes activity level work assignments and/or work projects, including but not limited to: Electro-Mechanical Technicians, Technologists, etc.
- Organizes and supervises day to day operations, ensuring that schedules are kept.
- Monitors performance against metrics and goals as established/approved by others.
- Responsible for working within assigned budget.
- Interacts daily with subordinates and frequent interaction with manager.
- External interactions are primarily with vendors and/or customers.
- May perform work of the same type as those being supervised, as well as, providing technical guidance.
- Creates an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Bachelors' degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 8 years of related and progressively responsible experience.
- Proficient knowledge of the profession they are to supervise.
- The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility, North Las Vegas.
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
- Proficient design and maintenance knowledge of largescale scientific machines like accelerators, Z-pinches, tokomaks, and/or high-power lasers systems.
- Proficient use of CREO.
- Experience supervising a technical team within a scientific, R&D, and/or production environment.
- Experience monitoring and measuring employee performance.
- Experience working within a team of scientist, engineers, technicians, and managers.
- Experience communicating (oral and written) with employees, managers, vendors, etc.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $101,254.40 to $162,011.20.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
